I love the smell of books. New books, old books, well-loved books, all books. Well, most books. As nice as the Kindle app is, there is just something about holding a book and sniffing the pages that just gets me. Oh, and I love floppy books. They are often easier to hold and read for me. That being said, I love Kindle too. I can have as many books as I want and my husband won’t complain how much my books weigh when it comes time to move. Plus, it is a lot less bulky than packing 2-4 books for a trip. Regardless if you are a physical book person or or a Kindle person, I found some books that look interesting coming out in August 2024. Let me show you what I found:

Rules For Ghosting by Shelly Jay Shore is a fantasy romance between two guys. Ezra Friedman, a Jewish man who sees ghosts, must go back and run his family’s funeral home and try to save it from financial ruin. He develops a crush on one of the funeral home’s workers, Jonathan. Ezra struggles to keep his family together, save the funeral home, and navigate what his heart wants.
The Examiner by Janice Hallet is a mystery with an interesting way of telling a story. The story is told through texts, emails, and essays as Gela Nathaniel finds six students from a variety of lifestyles across the United Kingdom. The ones she finds are nothing but headaches from the word go. Added to that, someone in this group is in danger or already dead. But who?
By Any Other Name by Jodi Picoult is a women’s fiction story. The book follows two women, Melina Green and her ancestor Emilia Bassano. Both women are playwrights who face failure in a male-dominated world. Both women must hide behind men’s names to see their vision come to fruition. It kinda makes me think of Julie & Julia (2009).
The Paris Gown by Christine Wells is a historical women’s fiction book. This one brings Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (movie 2005/book 2001) to mind. Three women, Clair, Gina, and Margot, are all trying to start their lives over and come together over a Dior gown. The women aren’t strangers, but will they get closer or torn apart while trying to start over?
House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen is a thriller/mystery. In this twisted story, it reminds us that the picture a family presents isn’t always true. Stella, a best interest attorney, takes on Rose Barclay, a nine-year-old child who was present at the death of her nanny. Was it murder? Was it suicide? Who, in this divorcing family, would want to kill the nanny? The whole family is lying, hiding something, and is suspect in the death. Including Rose, the child Stella was hired to protect. Is Stella now in danger?
The Plus One by S. C. Lalli is a thriller. Radhika and Raj are set to marry and bring the most wealthy and influential Indian-American families together. Shay is the plus one of Caleb, one of the groom’s best men, and is not a part of this wealthy world. Unfortunately, Radhika and Raj are found murdered the day before they are set to wed and all hell breaks loose. Shay may be the only one with enough perspective to cut through the lies and find the killer.

Then the next day, Faye hits a guy with her bike and he loses his memory. As she helps him, it turns out he is perfect for her. Is he a golem?
Apprentice To The Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer is another romance novel. It is the follow-up book to Assistant To The Villain. Evie is enjoying working with The Villain even though of late he has been out of the office. When the Kingdom’s magic goes awry it is up to Evie to protect the lair and all of The Villain’s evil works. She must learn new skills to meet the challenge.
