I’m back with the conclusion to the Green Hills Academy trilogy, Broken King. I left links to the first two books above in case you are curious. Josie Max authors the books and are both for sale and to read with a subscription to Kindle Unlimited. I love KU, it feeds my reading addiction and it is so much easier than carrying a book everywhere because I can read on my phone. I love it. Let’s get into the book.

Again, the book picks up where the other left off. We start with Knight’s POV and he tells us Violet is at the Hillingham’s on Crystal’s invitation, which we already knew but he figures out quickly that Violet is in trouble. The sneaky bastard put a tracking device on the violet on Violet’s necklace and found out it wasn’t transmitting. He calls Briggs and Caleb for help and has to grovel a little which is the least that he deserves. They go to the police and the officer they talk to tells her they can’t help Violet because the chief is in his pocket but gave him the name and number of a reporter that wants to expose his uncle.

Meanwhile, Violet finds out who her dad is which who he was didn’t surprise me. I do sort of think that anyone else didn’t make sense but it broke my heart even though it was a little predictable. She kind of resigns herself to dying because there is no way she can escape that room on by herself before perking up when she hears noise signaling that someone is opening the door. It was Mrs. Hillingham with Knight, Caleb, and Briggs hot on her heels. Violet, Caleb, and Briggs make it out of the party without getting caught but Knight does, by his uncle. Surprisingly, Ichabod admits to a bunch of wrongdoing but still refuses to admit to murdering Knight’s parents and Jack Franklin.

Overall I loved the story because I devoured the trilogy in two days. Luckily, I have time to read because my kids are old enough now. I thought the way that Violet waffled about her willingness to give in to the relationship between her and Knight was beautifully done. I can say it was aggravating at times but in the way that that friend keeps coming to you complaining about her relationship, you still love her but you roll your eyes when she starts in on it again. Arabella, I went back and forth with liking her and just being annoyed by her. She was a great friend to Violet but sometimes she went overboard in the “warning” her. Dahlia, Violet’s aunt is the worst aunt in the world. Violet has no parents and her mother died less than nine months ago and she is almost as hands-off as a deadbeat parent. She for some reason couldn’t change jobs so she could create a stable home for Violet, instead, she has her go live with strangers. She is a great example of what not to do when your orphaned nibbling just lost the only parent they had.

I can say I was surprised by the last conflict. I didn’t expect it to be as bloody as it was, so if you are squeamish about death in a book, you might want to skip this. All the other deaths in this book weren’t done “on screen” or standing in a bloodbath so… As with the other books, the spicy is spice and I loved it and the gift at the end made my heart melt. I recommend this trilogy.
