Hey guys, I’m back with another KU review: Inevitable by Shain Rose. This is a second-chance billionaire romance and does have spice. I know for a while, I was stuck on shifter romances, but I have been skipping around through the sub-genres lately. I must admit, I like billionaire romances, whether they are shifter billionaires or human ones. There are so many out there; at some point, I will try a hockey one. Anyway, on to the review.
We meet Aubrey, Brey to her friends, when Jax Stonewood tackles her back when they were in high school. She got some free time outside her house, which she treasured, and was hanging out with her friend and next-door neighbor Jay, Jax’s brother, in their yard. When Jax tackles Brey, he uses his hand and messes up her hair, which sends Brey into a complete panic. Mrs. Stonewood helps bring Brey’s hair under control, and she calms down. Unfortunately, when she goes home, her father doesn’t approve of the braid her hair is now in and cuts her hair off with a knife. It doesn’t help that Brey was caught not being home by her father. He is controlling and abusive.
When Jax and Brey meet, he scares her yet again before he realizes that her hair is much shorter than it was when he messed it up. Something shifts in him about Brey right then as he is chastised by Katie, a kindred spirit. Jay knows something isn’t right with Brey but doesn’t push. He doesn’t know about the abuse even though he is her best friend.

Later, Jax saves her from a fire and then breaks her heart. Six years later, as an adult, Brey stays friends with Jay but stays away from Jax. They have a third brother, Jett, but he isn’t a big part of this book. Mrs. and Mr. Stonewood are there a little, too, but the book mainly centers around Brey and Jax.
The book was great. I was totally engrossed. It was a good length, too. Ms. Rose was able to develop the characters fully and draw me in. I was well aware of what was going on instead of it being muddled at any point. I was, at times, though, impatient. That was both interesting and exasperating, but watching both of them struggle and fight what was between them was worth the frustration.
Not only was the story engrossing, but it was also well-written. The editing was well done, thankfully. I wasn’t stumbling from grammar through some of the book, which has happened in books on KU. It is aggravating when the story is great, but the grammar is wrong. Brey was a sympathetic character even though she seemed quite breakable, but I think that was the way she was made to be perceived. His friends handle her like she is going to break, and because of her abuse, she allows it so she doesn’t make waves. I love Jay. Everyone needs a friend like him or a big brother. Yeah, I would love to have him as a big brother. Jax is equal parts sex on a stick and someone you want to smack, so I fell in love with him, too. I will say, though, that Vick is not one of my favorite characters. She seems to just be there to be loud and obnoxious.
Needless to say, I am happy I found this. I think I was told about it on TikTok. I think you should try it. There is spice, so if you like that… It’s not overly spicy, but it does have some good scenes. You’ll fall in love with everyone and root for Brey.
