The video game industry is a pretty turbulent one, to say the least. Projects are started and then canceled all the time, whether it be internally or well after being announced, like we saw last year with Naughty Dog’s highly anticipated follow-up to the original Last of Us multiplayer. So whenever news on a game becomes scarce, the possibility of its cancellation becomes a concern for many gamers who are really looking forward to it. One such instance of this for me is with the game Little Devil Inside.
THE SHOWCASE TRAILER

Back in June 2020, Sony held their “PS5 – The Future of Gaming” showcase. It was an event put on to show off and announce a number of games that were going to be released on the PlayStation 5, even showing some of them running on the new hardware. Among some notable sequel announcements such as Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Horizon Forbidden West, and Resident Evil Village, there were also quite a few new titles revealed.
Now, technically, Little Devil Inside was revealed back in 2015 when the developer Neostream Interactive launched a Kickstarter campaign for the project. However, its appearance at the PS5 showcase is what propelled it into the eyes of the mainstream.
When the trailer for Little Devil Inside played during the showcase, my friend and I were both in awe of what we were watching. While I’ll admit that I primarily play AAA games, every now and then a smaller game will come around and blow me away. In recent years, I’ve really come to appreciate the more weird and different kinds of experiences that games can provide. So, naturally, I put Little Devil Inside on my radar instantly.
SILENCE

While gamers have already gotten their hands on most of the games present at the what is now almost a four-year-old showcase, Little Devil Inside has yet to be released.
After that incredible trailer at the PS5 showcase, the next time we got another trailer was during a Sony State of Play in October 2021. Which, for a while, was the game’s expected release year, but we see how that turned out. But since then, the developer has gone silent, and very little has been shown of the game. Until recently.
DESPITE IT ALL

On February 21 of this year, a new trailer for Little Devil Inside titled “Despite It All” dropped along with an update from Neostream, and what a relief it was to hear something about this game after so long.
The trailer was quite lengthy, showing off a decent amount of new gameplay. It was also revealed that the game will now be running in Unreal Engine 5, and this new trailer gave us a taste of what that looks like.
The trailer unfortunately didn’t provide a release date or even a release window, but just knowing that the team is still kicking and working hard on the project is good enough for me. They should take as long as they need to ensure that Little Devil Inside is the best game that it can be.
Little Devil Inside will come out eventually. But until then, I can rest easy knowing that the game isn’t cancelled and continue to make my way through my humongous backlog of games.
