After spending years playing farming sims, this past summer, I was determined to grow my crops. My spouse and I made a cute planter and threw some green bean seeds in a few pots. They did well until the Arizona sun burnt them to a crisp. I do not have a green thumb in real life; therefore, I set out on a quest to find a new farming sim. So, without further ado, today we will be discussing Wildmender.

The Story of Wildmender

Wildmender begins with an ominous cut scene with an unknown voice telling someone to leave this place. The player then quickly finds themselves in a desert landscape, dehydrated and disoriented. Luckily, a Spirit Guide is there to lend advice. This harsh terrain has potential, but players must put in the work. Starting from a small desert spring, you will enhance your oasis to become the home of your dreams. There is something for all players between crop cultivation, crafting, building, and exploration. Aside from the debilitating heat, there are other dangers in this land. Wraiths have corrupted this desert, and it is up to you to defeat them.

Thoughts

I am always searching for an online game to play with my pals. The ability to adjust difficulty on a survival farming sim like this is genius. This opens up the title for my friends who do not play many video games but could also offer a challenge to my hardcore friends. It feels like a cute Valheim, which sounds like a great time. Look at those graphics; how could you not fall in love?

I also appreciate the idea of the various terrains players can explore. Sure, your home is in the desert. However, you can head out to some dangerous poisoned canyons in search of life-draining wraiths. There is magic, weapons, and farming. What more could a girl ask for? Ultimately, I am excited to try this game and bug my friends until they join me.

Odds & Ends

If you are a gamer looking to thrive in the desert, you are in luck! Wildmender is available on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. If farming in the desert does not tickle your fancy, I recommend Echoes of the Plum Grove. It is also a survival farming sim, but it takes place in the 1700’s. Ultimately, I am excited to test out Wildmender this holiday break.
