November 19th, 2023 marked the end of the 2023 season 13 for all League of Legends players. It started with an incredible performance from the KPOP group, New Jeans, and it ended in a spectacular way in the World Championship Finals in Seoul, South Korea between the Chinese fourth seat, Weibo Gaming, and the Korean crowd favorite of T1. In a complete blow out, T1 wiped the floor with Weibo Gaming in the best of five finals, defeating them without losing a single game.

With T1 winning the 2023 World Championship, their organization becomes the official best team in the history of League of Legends esports with a total of four World Champion titles, which is three more than any other team in the world. These four Championship titles came over the course of a decade, and during this time, there as been one consistent factor in the T1 organization – the man in the mid lane, the “Unkillable Demon King,” Faker. Anyone who knows esports knows who Faker is, but with his fourth World Championship win on November 19th, 2023, he cements himself as the best competitive gamer of all time, across every video game in the world. If you were unable to catch the League of Legends World Championship live stream, I would highly recommend you go back and watch it because it is one for the history books.

The conclusion of the World Championship and season 13 of League of Legends means big changes are coming to the game for season 14. The theme for the new season is “Void Corruption.” The first big change is the announcement of a new champion, Hwei, a void wielding painter. He seems to be a ranged spell caster that utilizes ability power (AP) and attack speed to kite his enemies into his paint.

However, Hwei is actually the smallest change coming to League of Legends in season 14. Neutral objectives, jungle camps, and the Summoner’s Rift map are receiving big, void corrupted changes. Regarding neutral objectives, Rift Herald and Baron are becoming even stronger. Rift Herald will give a damage reduction and/or shield buff, spawns mini void monsters to attack the enemy tower it hits, and when summoned, allows allied champions to go inside the herald; there are still no details on what going inside the herald does. For baron, it now has six arms, which will likely have new abilities making it hard to defeat.

Moving onto jungle camps, red and blue buffs will now be void corrupted. It is unclear whether they will always be void corrupted or if they become corrupted at a specific time in the game, but the buffs they give will be buffed due to the void corruption. First thing to note, killing a void corrupted red or blue buff with teammates around will give their buff to everyone. The second thing to note is that this will make red and blue buff mini objectives on the map, which will cause more team fights over them as the team that takes it will all be buffed.

Finally, the Summoner’s Rift map will also be getting a void corrupted makeover. Similar to how dragon souls alter the map, the void corruption will change terrain on the map but in a more dynamic way. As the game progresses, the map will become more void corrupted around the baron pit and red/blue buffs. This means wall placements will shift, bushes will be removed, and all these changes seem to be independent of what the dragon soul is in any given game. The walls around lanes will also be changed but in a static way, meaning they will not change throughout the course of a game. These in-lane terrain changes will make side lanes (bot and top lane) hard to dive and gank, but mid lane will become easier to gank.

Overall, these changes will heavily affect how every person in the game plays, more so than any other season in recent memory. If you are interested in seeing the teaser for these changes yourself, check out the official Riot games teaser here.
