I have a confession. I didn’t read comics growing up. Any information I had about superheroes I learned from the guys around me, movies, and cartoons. It wasn’t until I got together with my husband that I really started learning about superheroes. However, another confession, I didn’t find them as interesting as myth and magic. I started reading The Sandman before I knew my husband, but that was about it. Constantine is in the Sandman stories, and I found that I like Constantine because he uses magic.
I watched the movie Constantine (2005) because I wanted to know the character and, well, because Keanu Reeves played John Constantine. I love Keanu Reeves. Lately, I have been wanting to watch the Constantine show that was on the WB. Watching the last episode of Lucifer started it. Watching Netflix’s Sandman made me want it more. Unfortunately, I can’t find it on any streaming service currently. I settled for Constantine- The House of Mystery because I hadn’t seen it.
In this, Constantine rewrites the past and the price he pays to be locked away in a house for eternity. It turns into a reincarnation hell. His loved ones and friends kill him over and over until the beings he sold his soul to come to claim their boon, only to have to fight to win his soul.
You can find DC Showcase Shorts: Constantine- The House of Mystery on HBOMax. This one has three shorts after the Constantine shorts. I didn’t watch those because Constantine wasn’t included. These are animated shorts, not live-action. I was kind of bummed that it was animated. I think because I wanted the show that, I was being picky. It was ok, but I think a large part of that is because I am missing a lot of the story. I think I will watch it again after watching more of the connected stories.
