Everyone looks for holiday movies to watch each year, though if you are like me, the usual romantic movies on Hallmark just don’t cut it sometimes. The good news is, any movie can be a holiday movie….if you look close enough! The movies listed below are my top non-holiday holiday movies.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy – Extended Edition (2002 – 2004)

Lord of the Rings is one of my favorite movie series of all time. I have watched the extended versions dozens and dozens of times. These movies were all released in December, so the association with holiday time is not a stretch. The extended versions run for over 11 hours, so you won’t have to plan much else to watch after that. Bake your lembas bread, get the ale, pop that popcorn, and cozy up for a marathon.

Harry Potter Film Series (2001 – 2011)

Harry Potter is so majorly engrained in my childhood that I have so many memories attached to the books and the movies. I have always chosen to watch these during days off of school, long weekends, and holidays. You will need a couple of days to get through all these movies, though they do take up a whole weekend at least, so if you don’t have any plans, these will be great for you. So grab your butterbeer, pumpkin pasties, and chocolate frogs, and buckle up for the magic!

The Conjuring 1 & 2 (2013 & 2016)

Continuing with my film series picks, I have chosen The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2. The second movie takes place during Christmas time, so this is an automatic holiday movie. And you cannot watch the second without watching the first. Better yet, you can keep the spooky season vibes until the end of the year with these two movies. These are perfect for cozying up on the couch with your favorite comfort blanket with your favorite nerdy friend! So you can be scared together.
