Welcome back to another week of spooky (but awesome) furry art! We’ve got a combination of straight-up Halloween art along with some pretty magical art as well. That works doesn’t it? Christmas can’t be the only holiday where the magic flows free!
7. Angie’s Halloween Friends
Magolobo starts off this week’s list with this cute bit of forest scenery. I wonder what it is she’s trying to summon with that flute? Or maybe it’s just some kind of general magic flute? It might be the latter, as it seems like some little cute spirits came out to see the vixen witch. Her outfit is a real treat (Ha) to look at, with nice use of the classic black-and red. I also like the design of the boots and how the front leaves room for the paw to stick out. It makes sense when you think about it – what are paw pads but natural soles for animals?
6. The Sea Witch
It looks like we’re in for a witches’ brew with these first two picks – first, we had a forest witch, and now we’ve got a sea witch. A draconic-looing sea witch I feel, given the design of her tail and the muzzle. Octopuses can’t have all the fun as troublesome oceanside spellcasters! The upwards angle on this is great, giving the sea witch a sense of power, and her smug face adds a lot of character. The twisting tentacles make for some visual fun as they twist and bend every which way.
5. Shining Against Fire
I honestly thought this was a real book cover when I first saw this one. Seriously, doesn’t it look like it’d be a cover for the book? Or maybe some sort of cool special edition re-release? A cover it isn’t, unfortunately, but it was the result of a sudden spark of inspiration that artist Amelia Herman felt after watching The Last Unicorn for the first time. An excellent example of a picture that might look simple at first glance, but is well done and has a general magical, epic feel.
Also, someone send this to the book’s publisher.
4. Spooky Spyro
TaylorTrap brings us back into firm spooky territory with this piece of Spyro fan art. Looks like our little dragon is getting into the spirits – who knew you could turn into a draconic villain with some tattered wings, glowing jewelry, and juuuust the right angle for some green lights? The scenery also works well for setting a Halloween mood, with bones, jack-o-lanterns, bats, and even a rhino mummy. Watch your step!
3. The Impaler
A white horse as Vlad the Impaler? Was artist Satanic Monkey trying to make a vague biblical reference? Because y’know, Death rides on a pale white horse?
Well, mythology aside, this is one badass picture that depicts an anthro version of the legendary Vlad III, also known as Vlad the Impaler and the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula. I can see some references to the vampiric myths, with a skull candle, ravens flying about, and a goblet of wine that suspiciously looks like blood. In addition, you’ve got some impaled bodies in the background, harkening back to Vlad III’s infamous moniker. Even his guard and his servant look very uneasy, which really helps sell the idea that this guy is a little off his rocker and someone not to be trifled with.
2. Enchanted Forest
Time, Dr. Freeman? Is it really that time again? Artist ShapaVoid snags the #2 spot with this awesome chrono mage. It’s hard to place my finger on it, but there’s something I really like about the picture. I think it’s the overall composition. The long, flowing robes, the different pieces of the robe that flow freely, the shine of the gold foil on the robes, and that gold being harkened to with the golden cogs and clock in the background. Everything seems to complement each other so well, and there’s even a couple of neat touches – notice how the robes have their own big hand, little hand, and seconds-hand. Now that’s some symbolism.
And the #1 pick for this week is:
1. Forest Mother
Dan Syron takes the top spot this week – well not just the top spot for art, but also the largest character! Perhaps the largest character on this series so far? And anyone that says a mother-nature-inspired drawing can’t be awesome should be shown this piece! There are so many great things going on with this piece that really capture the idea of the grand and majestic aspects of nature. Plus, it’s nice to see a bit of civilization getting along with natural spirits for once. At least, that’s what it seems like.
What really does it for this piece is not just the scale, but also the angle used. Looking down on the scene and the slight angle its done at really gives you a sense of scale and majesty. It also lets you see all the neat details of this spirit that Syron cooked up, as well as that cute little village on the bottom.

And it seems like Halloween’s playing another prank on me this year, as next week will be November’s 1st week of furry art…which also includes October 31st. Will we actually get Halloween on the final week of October on this series? Who knows! But I’m loving the spirits, the ghouls, and the giant nature spirits so far, so let’s see what the final days of October and first days of November bring us next week!
