Earth Day is upon us. Earth Day is April 22nd and is to raise awareness for our Earth and our impact on it. As many worlds I visit and am invested in through books, movies, games, and TV, I care about the planet I live on. I need to do my part. All of the following activities can be done by people of all ages. Let’s see what I came up with.

You could plant a tree name it. Give it a name from myth, magick, books, movies, or whatever floats your boat. I am moving to a place I am buying and you can bet I am planting a tree. I’m naming my tree Yggdrasil. If you plant a willow you could name it the Whomping Willow from Harry Potter, or Grandmother Willow from Pocahontas. I am not sure what kind of tree Treebeard from The Lord of the Rings, but that is a cool name too.

Another activity you could do is build a birdhouse or feeder out of recycled materials. Recycling is an awesome way to reduce your carbon footprint. You could use anything. Decorate your bird feeder or house with superhero colors and symbols or make it resembles a place you like from your favorite book. It can be as elaborate or simple as you choose. There are numerous sites that will tell you the best foods for birds. With all the deforestation, our feathered friends could use a little love.

You could build a terrarium. There are two types of terraria. One is closed and the other is open. Different plants and materials are better suited to one or the other. I would love to build a gothic one. Mosses, black or dark plants, and small decorations will all add to the feel of your terrarium. I choose gothic because it makes me think of Harry Potter and Jean Claude from the Anita Blake series. Also, I just like the dark.

You could always make up an Earth Day superhero. Dress up as that superhero and pick up litter in your area. You don’t have to go to a freeway and do it or make it a public event. Have fun with the kids as you dress up and pick up trash on your street or your favorite park. Bonus points if you wear a cape and mask.

My last idea is to be like Tony Stark and make your house a smart house. I am not talking about all the upgrades that Mr. Stark has. That is completely unlikely. You can however change lightbulbs to LED that actually connect to Alexa and the like and can control them while away from home if you left them on. You could change your thermostat, put solar panels on your roof, and other things. The best part is that you save money and energy with all these available products. Who doesn’t like saving money?

Do any of these sound fun? Will you be celebrating Earth Day on April 22nd? Let me know how you will be partaking in that day. Until next week…
