Stardew Valley is a farming simulator, coming up on its 5th birthday, that has brought joy to many virtual farmers worldwide. Crafted by ConcernedApe, players take over their deceased grandfather’s farm to leave the hustle and bustle of city living. The end goal of Stardew Valley has always been to complete the Community Center or join the Joja Corporation in world domination. That is until the 1.5 updates came along.

Now, I am not here to share all the knowledge that came with the 1.5 updates that can be found here. However, I am here to share my experience with the newly acquired content. The update is currently limited to the PC version. Updates for mobile, Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox are anticipated for early this year. From here on out, there will be spoilers, so please, leave now if you are trying to avoid them.

The Island Life

I avoided reading the developer’s notes before diving in; I was excited to learn more about the update as I went along. As soon as my character awoke, I checked the mail, receiving a letter from Willy. After tending to my animals, I made my way to the docks, where I encountered a cutscene. As many of you know, this is where I learned about the boat and its ability to take me to Ginger Island. Quickly realizing there was another location that needed exploring, I began my quest for hardwood.

After accumulating all the necessary materials, I shipped off in the early morning. I was excited about the adventure that awaited me and let me tell you; I was not disappointed. There is so much more content to be explored that I know I have yet to see. I am currently finding as many golden walnuts as possible; these parrots seem to enjoy them. I am savoring my time on Ginger Island; where this restraint has come from, I am unsure. However, I know I must give credit where credit is due.

Final Thoughts

Overall, ConcernedApe did a spectacular job with this update. I have played through Stardew Valley several times, even if I still cannot bring myself to join Joja, and I have always found the ending to be kind of sad. He listened to his audience, and for that, I am genuinely grateful. In the end, this update rejuvenated my need to gorge myself on Stardew Valley content, and I fully intend to return to my farm upon completion of this article. All that is left to ask is, what did you love about this update?
