Well there’s no doubt that Dean Winchester has an obsession with pie! Dean was shown eating a delicious piece of pie in season 5 episode 15, and there have been multiple references about the demonic angel’s not-so-holy obsession with the pastry, his favorite flavor being cherry. So here’s a little something for all you Supernatural fans out there!
Pie Crust:
- 2/3 cup butter
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4-5 tablespoons cold water
- In a large bowl, cut butter into flour and salt, using pastry blender, until particles are size of coarse crumbs. Sprinkle with cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, tossing with fork until all flour is moistened and pastry almost cleans side of bowl (1-2 teaspoons more water can be added if necessary).
- Gather pastry into a ball, divide into halves. Shape into two rounds on lightly floured cloth-covered board.
- Roll pastry into circle 2 inches larger than upside-down pie plate, 9×1 1/4 inches, with floured rolling pin. Fold pastry into fourths; Place in pie plate. Unfold and ease into pie plate, pressing firmly against bottom and side.
- Turn cherry filling into pastry-lined pie plate, 9×1 1/4 inches. Trim overhanging edge of pastry 1/2 inch from rim of plate. Roll other round of pastry. Fold into fourths and cut slits so steam can escape.
- Place pastry over filling and unfold. Trim overhanging edge of top pastry 1 inch from rim of plate. Fold and roll top edge under lower edge, pressing on rim to seal.
Cherry Pie Filling:
- 1 1/3 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 6 cups red tart cherries, pitted
- 2 tablespoons stick butter
- Heat oven to 425*
- Mix sugar and flour in large bowl. Stir in cherries.
- Turn into pastry-lined pie plate. Dot with butter. Cover with top pastry that has slits cut in it; seal.
- Cover edge with strip of aluminum foil to prevent excessive browning. Remove foil during last 15 minutes of baking.
- Bake 35-45 minutes. Cool in Pie plate on wire rack.
Chocolate Design:
- 1 1/2 cups dark chocolate melts
- In a microwave-safe bowl, microwave 1 1/2 cups of dark chocolate at 50% power or defrost setting for 1 minute.
- Stir thoroughly in container. Continue to microwave at 50% power or defrost setting in 30-second intervals and stirring until smooth or completely melted.
- Pour melted chocolate into piping bag. Cut a small tip for decorating.
- On a small metal baking sheet, place a sheet of wax paper and tape the paper to the baking sheet.
- Using the piping bag of melted chocolate, draw a pentagram about an inch smaller than the size of the pie (as shown in photo).
- Once design is complete, place baking sheet in refrigerator until design has cooled and completely hardened.
- When the pentagram is ready, gently remove from baking sheet and place on top of pie.
Baking this pie was really nice, and surprisingly easy to put together! I had no trouble making the pie crust or the cherry filling, and the chocolate pentagram was very simple. I had a lot of fun baking this and I hope you will too! Tune in next week for another nerdalicious treat!
