Winter break has come to a grinding halt, and before I return to writing term papers and making notecards, I found it only fitting to share with you a game unlike one I’ve discovered previously. Usually, I talk about video games in which I can till dirt or raise cows, but today I wanted to share my adventure RPG side. I adore hack and slash games, but more importantly, I love loot. I am a dragon and hoard all the loot I find, but what if I told you, there was a game in which selling loot is the main objective? Then I’d have to be telling you about Moonlighter.

Will in Dungeon

Moonlighter follows the path of Will, a shopkeeper who’s always dreamed of becoming an adventurer. Duty called when his parents left him the shop; however, Will was able to kill two birds with one stone. By day he sells wares to the citizens of Rynoka, a small commercial village, but by night he slays creatures and obtains loot to trade in his shop.  Players can not only maintain the store and fight monsters but also meet villagers, craft and enchant items, as well as open several gates.

These mythical gates were initially found during an excavation dig and can plane shift Will into different worlds in the form of dungeons. There are four various gates, and after completing them all, players can activate the final boss of gates. Moonlighter is the perfect combination of The Legend of Zelda meets Recettear. After watching the trailer, I have promptly added Moonlighter to my Steam wish list and envision myself playing for hours at a time after the spring semester.

Developer Digital Sun and the publisher 11 bit studios, teamed up to give indie gamers a run for their money. Moonlighter has all the elements of a tycoon adventure game, that I didn’t even know I wanted. It’s got the cute graphics, a relatable protagonist, and loot! Aside from the remarkable points I’ve laid out before you, Moonlighter is still receiving updates and DLC. Summer of 2019, the DLC Between the Dimensions was released, which gives players new loot, bosses, villagers, a shop upgrade, and a new trader.

Moonlighter is on all major video game consoles, including Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. They are even selling a Signature Edition that comes with all kinds of adorable goodies. One thing is for sure, I am ultra-excited to play Moonlighter, and I look forward to seeing what Digital Sun will be bringing to our screens in the future.
