I’ve said before that I’m a pretty big fan of Drunk Mark, and Hungover Mark is quite entertaining as well, but last week Mark was acting like an absolute weapons-grade moron, and I’m not into it. Roxy is not my favourite person on Ramsay Street, although I am gradually warming to her, but the key point here is that she’s an actual human person, and as such she deserves to be treated with respect and compassion.

Granted, Mark has had a tough year, but he has rapidly used up any sympathy I had for him after the death of his best friend and the implosion of his marriage, plus finding out that both his mother and sister have Huntington’s Disease. The reason I have no sympathy for him any more is because he is behaving like a trash human and using Roxy, and then berating her for not being exactly what he needs at any given moment. None of his woes are Roxy’s fault, and she was happy to help him have a bit of fun to help him get over things, but she did not sign up for being manipulated or having her self-confidence eroded.

Say what you like about Roxy, she’s not ashamed to be herself, or at least she wasn’t, until Mark began letting her know in no uncertain terms that he, and the rest of the world, didn’t think she was good enough for him. She’s a party girl at heart, she likes drinking and dancing, and wearing tiny little tops that would maybe cover one of my shins. That’s just Roxy, that’s who she is, and Mark knew exactly who she was when he started this fling with her. For him to turn around and slate her in front of everyone for being exactly what he was looking for is so hypocritical, and I’m glad that he got all the shade from Chloe for doing it, she was having absolutely none of his nonsense.

Also having none of it are Harlow and Sheila, who reared up in defence of Roxy in a way that made me want to punch the air. The unlikely trio of the uptight Harlow, free-spirited Roxy and the legend that is Mama Jugs herself, Sheila, is something that I had no idea I wanted until I saw it playing out. I hope they’re going to remain supportive of Roxy, because after she took Mark back again, I have a feeling that it’s not going to be long before he throws another man tantrum and upsets her for about the hundredth time.

I never thought I’d say this, because when Roxy arrived she was literally my least favourite character, but she is too good for Mark. He doesn’t know what he wants. Either you want to have fun with the party girl, or you want a more sensible buttoned-up type of lady who will help you alphabetize your collection of cleaning products, and you can’t find both of those things in one person, no matter how much you yell at her.

In conclusion – Mark, please stop being a muppet.
