Well, Comic-Con has come and gone but the news cycle just keeps on coming. While dropping a new trailer for season 3 at San Diego the cast and crew last week were more than a little tight lipped.

One of the main omissions from the event was an official release date. We know its going to be sometime in 2020 but we don’t know when. The Wrap recently conducted an interview with HBO Programming Chief Casey Bloys at the Televisions Critics Association where he revealed a bit more info on the release date:

“First half of 2020,” he told them during their interview.

This is promising as we won’t have to wait that long into the year for the new season to start. We still don’t have a firm date but its something.

The other bit of interesting news from this interview was about the future of the show.

If you recall, back n April, it was announced that show runners Nolan and Joy had signed a massive overall deal at Amazon, exiting their previous deal with Warner Bros. Television. Since Warners produces Westworld, fans were left wondering whether the creators would be less involved in future seasons of the show.

Bloys doesn’t see this as an issue and revealed a bit more when asked about it:

“They are 100 percent hands on…We have deals with them for a potential fourth and fifth season. So the deal with them [at Amazon] is for, I believe, everything but ‘Westworld.’ And they’re very committed to ‘Westworld.’ So I’m not worried about losing their focus, they don’t lose focus.”

So in well fell swoop Bloys not only dismissed any concerns about the quality of the show he also revealed that there are plans in place to keep it going. This is huge, since until this point we had no little idea on how long the show would last. Of course, the key word Bloys used was ‘potential’ so nothing is set in stone. Still, it is exciting news.
