Initially I was just going to create a video review of the new “superhero” show coming to Amazon in late July and then then I watched the teaser…and well…wow! This does not feel or look like any other superhero genre TV show I’ve ever seen. There are some things that feel a little like what “The Watchmen” movie and graphic novel accomplished (interesting considering HBO is actually doing a Watchmen series). But still this is something different.

It appears the show is going with the idea of “power corrupts”. We hear the heroes cursing and see them killing bad guys and apparently anyone that happens to be in their way. The voice over done by Karl Urban tells us that the supers are hurting people with no repercussions so he and his group are out to stop them.

The show looks interesting. It’s going to be very bloody and quite cringe inducing if the trailer and teaser are any indication. The mixture of sex and violence is at times disturbing and completely different from the stylized violence of the mainly PG-13 superhero movies. The closest mainstream comparison would be the R-rated Deadpool and even that does not appear to come close to matching what this show seems to be aiming to accomplish.

The show seems to be banking on that stark contrast to the MCU and the dark humor evident in the trailer also sets it in a class of it’s own within the genre. I’m hoping it has more than just that and will definitely check out at least the first couple of episodes, before passing final judgement on if I can stomach adding it to my television diet. Below you’ll find the official trailer from Amazon. Warning it is graphic and there is some adult language so if you’re squeamish I would avoid. I’m also going to include my video review that includes the teaser from Amazon that is even more cringe inducing. You’ve been warned.

Below is my video review:
