As Mother’s Day has just past, I look at the beautiful children I have been blessed with and think to myself, “I am so lucky to have been lent these humans to love and mold.” There are so many thing I want to show them and that I have showed them. My children are so unique and funny and caring. They make my life a joy. I have been blessed with my own biological children as well as children of my heart so I have 6 children. I have Bri, Kacy and Jack as well as Lady, Skylah and Connor. Ranging in age from 22 to 11.
I have always had my obsessions. Some healthy and some not so healthy ie Ben and Jerry’s. I have always shared my obsessions with my kids. My first thing I introduced my kids to was Scooby-Doo. I have LOVED Scooby since I was a kid myself and now my kids do too. We pick apart the new Scooby cartoons together. I have showed them the original She-Ra and He-Man and Tom and Jerry and all those good cartoons.
As they grew I continued to share my love of Sci-Fi and fantasy with them. I showed them Star Wars and Star Trek. I even showed them Spaceballs. We have played Magic The Gathering and all kinds of video games. Now my oldest is very much centered in reality. My middle is into the world of anime and manga. My youngest loves both real world and the fantasy/Sci-Fi world within video games. The youngest of my heart children is a writer like me so he lives in a fantasy world just like I do. The oldest of my heart children is so unique in her style ad is passionate about social issues as is the oldest of my biological. The middle of my heart children is just amazing and has overcome so much. All of my children make me so proud.
Today my kids have passions they are nerdy about and it makes me happy. They don’t have all the same passions that I do. However each of them have at least one. They love to tell me all about the things they like and they listen to me babble about mine. I couldn’t ask for more. Well maybe sometimes that they streamline some of their chatter but I wouldn’t change them at all.
To all the nerdy moms out there Happy Mother’s Day! You rock! Keep sharing your passions with them. Help them cultivate their own. What are your nerdy obsessions? What are your kids nerdy obsessions? Let me know in the comments below. Til next week..
