Hello Gothamites, we are back at it again with Episode 8: ‘Nothing’s Shocking’!
We begin this episode with two somewhat older men walking into The Sirens Club. They give Barbara some intel and in exchange for that, she allows them to have a drink. Then another older man enters the club and asks them if they ever think about what they did to the girl. Before they know it, the man stabs the two men in the necks and lets them bleed out.
Barbara calls Gordon and Bullock, who recognize the two men as old GCPD cops. They are surprised when Barbara tells them that the bartender overheard them say the name Dix to the man, while the real Dix is stuck in a wheelchair for the past 15 years. Gordon pays a visit to Harvey’s old partner who is still indeed in a wheelchair. Dix tries to convince them that he didn’t kill the cops, but Gordon finds it a bit hard to believe when he spots a packed suitcase on the bed. Then someone is at the door. When Bullock opens the door he stands face to face with another Dix. Harvey gives the fake Dix a head butt and somehow manages to rip off his face before the fake Dix runs away.
Gordon finds out that Bullock, Dix and the two other cops worked on a case together back in the day. The case was about a woman who shot her husband but because there was no physical evidence, she was convicted with the statements of her 7-year-old daughter. Gordon is curious if the daughter is still alive and goes to the family home which is located in the green zone. However, Bullock thinks it has nothing to do with that case and tries to convince Gordon that they should be looking for Clayface instead. Dix even told Bullock that the daughter, Jane, died a couple of years ago. Gordon disagrees and takes Harper to the house instead of Bullock.
Gordon, Harper and another cop arrive at the house. The ground floor looks abandoned when Gordon and Harper inspect it, while the other cop looks on the attic. At first, he doesn’t see anyone, but then he is suddenly knocked unconscious (or dead, we don’t really know) by a mystery girl. When the mystery girl touches the cop, she can take on his appearance. She goes to Gordon and Harper to say that there is nothing to be found in the attic, but Gordon spots the body of the real cop and hits the fake cop. This causes the girl to turn back normal and she can be taken into custody. The mystery girl turns out to be indeed Jane, the daughter. Jane tells that she was in Arkham where Hugo Strange did experiments on her in Indian Hill. There she got the power to change her skin like a chameleon and Jane Doe was born.
Meanwhile, Harvey takes Dix into the dressing rooms where they can ‘talk in private’. But there is not much talking done, because Bullock uses his tie to strangle Dix. Then Barbara comes to the GCPD with more information from one of her bartenders. he told her that the fake Dix said that ‘the kid was guilty too’. Gordon wants to ask Dix about this, but he seems missing since Bullock took him out into the dressing rooms. But when Bullock arrives he says he knows nothing about it. When Gordon, Bullock and Harper enter the dressing rooms, they see the killed Dix and Gordon put the GCPD immediately in a lockdown. Then Barbara walks in again claiming she has been attacked, but she is soon followed by another Barbara. They obviously look very similar so Gordon asks where the two of them first met. Because Jane doesn’t know the answer she holds a gun to Barbara’s head. Barbara elbows her in the stomach and gets free but Jane can escape.
Bullock follows Jane back to her house. Where she has a gun and wants to kill him. But before she has a chance, he shoots her first. A guilty Bullock later confesses to Gordon that he and the rest of the cops forced Jane to incriminate her mother for killing her abusive father, and Gordon refuses to forgive him.
Somewhere else in Gotham there is a young woman lying wounded in the hospital. She tells Bruce that she was running a shelter together with her husband and that there were people getting missing in the sewers. Her husband went to look for them, but he ended up missing too. When she went to look for him, she got attacked by some kind of creature but luckily was able to escape just in time. Alfred and Bruce agree to help find the husband. When Bruce and Alfred are in the sewer tunnels that run along the river when they find a bitten off arm. When they walk some more in the tunnels, they eventually find the husband who is scared of some kind of creature. But before they can take him out of there, Bruce his flashlight fails and he is attacked by something. Before they know it, the husband is dragged out again by the creature. When Bruce and Alfred find him again, they see that the ‘creature’ is most likely a man that was infected by the toxins from the river. They are able to free the husband and bring him back to his wife.
Back at Nygmas place, Nygma is continuing to build the submarine that will take him, Penguin, Barbara and Selina out of Gotham. When Penguin walks in, Nygma gets a bit pissed because he is the only one doing work on the submarine. Penguin tries to object by saying that he is the one that stole all things valuable in Gotham and that he hired some muscle to protect them. Suddenly when they are still arguing, Mr Penn walks in. Penguin is shocked at first because he watched him die, but is then very happy to have him back. He could have come a bit earlier perhaps, but Penguin is happy nevertheless. Mr Penn wanted to come earlier, but he wouldn’t let him. Then he takes out a dummy from his suitcase. The dummy is called Mr Scarface. Apparently, Mr Penn woke up in the GCPD morgue after he was shot, he patched up his wounds before crawling out of the GCPD. He ended up in an abandoned magic shop where he was found by Scarface. Scarface heard about how Penguin treated Mr Penn and knows about his treasures. He wants to steal his treasures and become the boss of Gotham.
Then Nygma betrays Penguin by saying that he wants to help Scarface getting off the island. Scarface accepts the plan of the submarine and wants to shoot Penguin because he is no longer needed. Penguin buys himself some more time by appealing to Mr Penn’s good memories with him. Then Nygma turns on the sonar that he was working on. The loud noise helped Penguin to overpower Mr Penn and Scarface and shoots the latter through the head. Nygma then shoots Mr Penn in the head because that lunatic had to be stopped. They end up in a laugh because they realize why they work so well together.
