With the Merry Gentry series by Laurell K. Hamilton I am reviewing I feel it is appropriate to tell you about Danu, the main Goddess of the series. When I say the main Goddess I am mean there are many lesser Goddesses among the Sidhe.

Danu who is part of the Triple Goddess known as the Morrigan which is comprised of Anu (the maiden), Danu (the mother) and Badb (the crone). Danu is the mother of the Tuatha De Danann which literally translates to “Children of Danu”. They are her divine children known as the Sidhe. The Sidhe split into two groups, Seelie and Unseelie. There is unfortunately very little texts surviving about Danu so not as much known about her as some of the other Goddesses and Gods of the Celts.

She is a Goddess of fertility, wisdom, magic, poetry and craftmanship. Her symbols are holy stones, keys, crowns and horses. She is strongly connected to both Earth and Water which makes sense as water is life giving and earth is life sustaining which are both qualities of a mother.

I hope you enjoyed the information about Danu as I enjoyed learning about her. Til next week…
