* SOME AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR SPOILERS BELOW *
The dramatic ending of Avengers: Infinity War left many questions unanswered, but provided a subtle hint at what’s to come in the post credits scene featuring Nick Fury — just before he disintegrates completely, he sends a distress signal out to Captain Marvel.

So who is this new hero? Well her name is Carol Danvers (played by Brie Larson), and she was introduced in the comics in 1967. Danvers was a air force officer who becomes a superhero when an explosion causes her DNA to fuse with that of the original Captain Marvel, an alien named Mar-Vel. She was originally called Ms. Marvel, but gained the title of Captain Marvel in 2012.
There’s been lots of movement involving when Captain Marvel was to make her MCU debut. She was announced back in 2014, and was originally meant to be invited to the party during Age of Ultron. She was then pushed to 2018, but the slot ultimately went to Ant Man & the Wasp.
And how does she fit into the story now? Well her film will actually take place in the 1990s, and bring back characters like Nick Fury and Agent Phil Coulsen, and of course, SHIELD and Hydra. So how will a movie set in the 90s kick off Phase 3 of the MCU? Well, maybe it has something to do with Doctor Strange’s vision of the one way they can beat Thanos. If I had to guess, there’s going to be some time traveling from a certain Master of the Mystic Arts.
Not much is known about the plot of Capitan Marvel, but we do know that Lee Pace will return as Ronan the Accuser, the villain from the first Guardians of the Galaxy film.
It will be very strange to see the MCU take such a giant step backwards in time, especially after so many of the recent films have been in relatively chronological order. But considering Thanos’ snap acted like a kind of reset button, maybe it makes sense.
I for one am very excited to see Marvel’s first female title character, and considering she’s coming back to help save the world in Avengers 4, I want to know as much about her as possible!
