For their first Comic-Con appearance, the cast of AMC’s Better Call Saul took over Hall H in order to answer some questions from fans and promote season four. Gilligan, Gould, Bob Odenkirk (Saul), Rhea Seehorn (Kim Wexler), Michael Mando (Nacho), Giancarlo Esposito (Fring), and Patrick Fabian (Howard Hamlin) all made comments on the legacy of the show and the filming process.
Esposito and Mando praised the character growth that has become a hallmark of Gilligan and Gould’s TV shows, with Odenkirk agreeing that he continually feels sorry for his character. Hints may have been dropped when Odenkirk discussed the Kim Wexler elephant in the room, i.e., if she’s still around during the events of Breaking Bad, why doesn’t she have a place in Saul’s later life? Odenkirk expressed that he wanted some kind of outside life where Saul still gets to be Jimmy McGill and perhaps volunteers with children. Seehorn pointed out that Kim and Saul really do have some chemistry together because Kim has this fascination with Saul’s sleazy worldview, everyone agreed that Saul represents Jimmy’s innermost demons.
The cast answered questions from grateful fans who stopped by to appreciate a worthy successor to Breaking Bad. One great fan question posed: who from the Breaking Bad universe would you like to get a beer with? Mando said Walter White/Bryan Cranston, Odenkirk said Huell, and Seehorn said Slippin’ Jimmy and gave a shout-out to Jonathan Banks (Mike) who couldn’t attend the panel. Fabian then sent Banks an Instagram story of a cheering Breaking Bad fandom.
The fourth season of Better Call Saul premiers on August 6, at 9/8 pm Central.
