On August 28, 2017 a snippet of “The Heathers” trailer was released creating butterflies in the stomach of those who’ve adored the original film. Following that snippet of film, the official trailer was released on January 18, 2018, giving fans a little more insight into the new TV series.

Paramount’s “The Heathers” was originally supposed to air on March 7, 2018 but that date was pushed back out of respect to the victims and families of the tragic Stoneman Douglas High School Shooting. Paramount Network explained in their statement on February 28, 2018, how it wasn’t the right time to release the tv show because of the tragic incident and hurting families in Florida. They went on to say they had decided to release the first episode later this year. I’m pretty sure this gracious choice from Paramount would draw fans closer to the show when the time was right, but until then fans had to wait it out. It was teased that the story was originally written by Daniel Waters and the tv show would star the original characters Grace Victoria, Melanie Field, James Scully, Brendan Scunnell, and Jasmine Matthews.

On June 2, 2018, Paramount announced that it will completely scrap the Heathers project. Keith Cox, Paramount Network president of development and production, stated: “We had multiple meetings, and in the end, we didn’t feel comfortable right now airing the series and I’m not sure when there might be a time that we as a youthful brand at Viacom would feel comfortable. That said, we are very diligently trying to sell this because we believe in the show.” Just like the original movie, the Heathers tv series deals heavily with suicide and violence. One the episodes actually simulates a school shooting even though it’s later revealed to be a video game simulation. With the current gun control situation, Viacom feels it’s too BOLD of a series to air on their network. So hopefully another network (PST HULU & NETFLIX!) because apparently the satire is there and it’s GOOD!
