In 2011 The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was released. It starred Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig as the two main characters, Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist. The Worldwide box office was $232.6, so in my opinion, it was a successful movie, even earning Mara an Oscar nomination for the role.
The film was based on the novel of the same name and, at the time, had two sequels to it that the studio was supposed to be making as well. However, due to scheduling conflicts with the director and actors, and other conflicting rumors about recasting and money, they never got around to doing those two movies.
In 2015, amid some controversy that we are not going to get into here, there was a new novel to the series written by a new author, David Lagercrantz, because the original author, Stieg Larsson, tragically passed away in 2004 before his novels were ever published. Upon this new novel being released, the studio decided to move forward with the project, but with this new book and they were going to completely recast and hire a new director.

Which brings us to The Girl in the Spider’s Web. I really do not know what to expect from this movie. I am such a fan of the other movie and the original series that I haven’t given these new books much of a chance, which I know is unfair. I am excited to see the characters on screen once again, however. I am going to remain hopefully optimistic upon going into this movie and go in with zero expectations.
The synopsis of the movie is:
Young computer hacker Lisbeth Salander and journalist Mikael Blomkvist find themselves caught in a web of spies, cybercriminals, and corrupt government officials.
Claire Foy will be starring as Lisbeth Salander and Sverrir Gudnason is playing Mikael Blomkvist. Fede Alvarez is directing.
The movie comes out November 9, 2018.
