Slight spoilers may be talked about below, so please be sure to watch the latest episode before reading on! This review is based off of the dub version of Super that currently airs on Toonami.
We’re deep into the Future Trunks Saga as Goku, Vegeta and Trunks take the fight to the newly formed Fused Zamasu. Picking up right after Black and Zamasu fusion from the previous episode, the newly formed god is on a warpath against everyone as he begins his Zero Mortals plan. Here Gowasu and Supreme Kai theorizes that Fused Zamasu, since he has the relentless fighting power of a Saiyan (Goku Black) and the divine energy that comes from a kai (Future Zamasu), he is one of the strongest beings in existence with an unlimited pool of power to tap into. This then becomes a desperate battle for our heroes to save the already fragile future.
Vegeta orders Future Trunks to take Bulma and Future Mai to a safe location while he and Goku battle Fused Zamasu; Gowasu and Supreme Kai also high tail it out of there as well as Fused Zamasu launches some of his most deadly attacks. Attacks that Goku and Vegeta barely manage to live through but not much can be said for some of the future survivors living underground.
Here Future Yajirobe and the rest of what’s left of humanity are being driven out of their underground shelter by the shear might and force of Fused Zamasu’s attacks happening on the surface. A few survivors make it out ahead of Yajirobe, Haru and Maki but are instantly vaporized by one of Fused Zamasu’s attacks, paralyzing the rest of the survivors. They then begin to volunteer for someone to go outside and see if the coast is clear, with Yajirobe being the one. Luckily he heads outside just as Goku and Vegeta go on the offensive against Fused Zamasu again and signals for the others to follow him. They eventually runs into Future Trunks again, who tells them all to go to where Bulma and Future Mai are at in Bulma’s tech garage up on a hill.

Goku and Vegeta are putting up a fight against Fused Zamasu but sadly it’s just not enough, with both heroes falling against the god. Suddenly Future Trunks appears and lends a helping hand by going into his newly acquired Super Saiyan Rage mode and on the offensive. Fused Zamasu prepares to finish off all three of the heroes with his Holy Judgement attack but Future Trunks counters with a Super Galick Gun holding Fused Zamasu’s attack at bay. Eventually Vegeta steps in and fires off a Super Galick Gun of his own alongside Future Trunks and they blast back the Holy Judgement into Fused Zamasu’s face. But being that Fused Zamasu retains regular Future Zamasu’s immortality, this counter attack does absolutely nothing but angers the god. Fused Zamasu then retaliates by delivering a Lightning Of Absolution attack directly at Future Trunks but Vegeta steps in and takes the full hit of it. Fused Zamasu then goes for another Holy Judgement at the father-son duo but Goku enters the fray and blast Zamasu’s Holy Judgement with a God Kamehameha as a tug-o-war occurs between the two. The episode then ends on this cliffhanger!
As you can tell from all of the above, it was an exciting episode to catch. It almost had slight traces of what made the later episodes of Dragon Ball Z so excited with the clashes against Cell and Kid Buu. Fused Zamasu is easily one of the best villains of Super so far and some might argue that he is actually the only villain of the series to actually give our heroes a run for their money. The action was also intense and creative with a nice through back to the father-son moment between Goku and Gohan against Cell all those years ago but now with Vegeta and Future Trunks. The english voice work of course is always amazing when it comes to the core cast of Goku, Vegeta, Bulma, Supreme Kai, Future Trunks and Future Mai. Fused Zamasu is still the same monologue heavy villain he’s always been since before his fusion, but I love the neat trick of how his voiced when fused is both Blacks and Zamasu’s and there’s a bit more heavy gravitas to his voice when speaking.
The only thing that maybe should have been kept to a minimum was the side plot of Yajirobe and the other survivors, with just a few short scenes featuring them running away from the city or surprisingly appearing at Bluma’s garage door would have do. Not instead of what we got which was a good 5 minutes focusing on them away from the actual fight of Fused Zamasu against Goku and Vegeta. It’s strange choices like this as of late in Super that sorta zap the excitement out of the fight when compared to how Dragon Ball, Z and GT use to do it. But other then that, Super is doing fine and is ramping up in the drama department as we reach the climax of the Future Trunks Saga.
