‘SNL’ Top 4: Bill Hader

Saturday Night Live - Season 43
Will Heath/NBC

Bill Hader hosted SNL for the second time on Saturday. There’s something special about a former cast member hosting the show. It usually means we will see some familiar characters but it also allows the writers to up their game because they know what the host is capable of. There were only two sketches from the night that I didn’t care for which is much less than it usually is. I think it’s safe to say it was the strongest episode of the the season so far.

#1 Stefon

Stefon has always been a fan favorite and this segment was extra special thanks to the quick cameo by comedian John Mulaney, who writes Stefon’s lines.

#2 Girlfriends Game Night

This is one of the raciest sketches the show has ever done. There’s really nothing else to say about this sketch, you’ll just have to see for yourself.

#3 Kate McKinnon as Betsy DeVos

As a former elementary school teacher and human person I especially enjoyed Kate McKinnon’s impersonation of the least qualified cabinet member.

#4 The Californians

Another fan favorite, Bill Hader returned as Devon and we learned that beloved Rosa (Vanessa Bayer) has been replaced.

Bonus: Pete Davidson

Yes, for the second week in a row I’ve technically chosen five sketches. I just fell like Pete Davidson deserves some props. Similar to Leslie Jones, Weekend Update is where Pete truly shines and I admire how he keeps speaking up about metal health. He’s the youngest cast member and has grown so much on the show.

SNL will return on April 7 with host Chadwick Boseman and musical guest Cardi B.
