To celebrate the release of the stop-motion animated film Isle of Dogs in cinema’s ( It was the opening film of the 68th Berlin International Film Festival) today, I thought why not give a recipe that both you and your four-legged friends can share! Curious about this movie? Here is the synopsis:

In a dystopian future Japan, dogs have been quarantined on a remote island due to a “canine flu”. A boy, Atari, ventures to the island to find his dog, Spots. Other dogs—Chief, Rex, Boss, Duke, and King—help him search for Spots and evade the authorities.

Important warning: To make the cookies dog-friendly, omit the banana chips and chocolate.

Ingredients

For the crispy caramelized bananas
2 bananas, thinly sliced
The juice of one lemon
30 gr butter, melted
26 gr sugar

For the cookies
250 gr peanut butter
160 gr honey
140 gr flour
175 gr chocolate, coarsely chopped

How to bake

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F/175°C.
  2. Then start on the bananas.
  3. Cut up the bananas into slices and place them in a small bowl.
  4. Squeeze in the lemon juice to ensure they don’t brown.
  5. On a parchment paper-lined baking tray, brush one tablespoon of melted butter over the bottom of the tray.
  6. Sprinkle one tablespoon sugar over the butter and lay out the banana slices.
  7. Brush the slices with the remaining butter and sprinkle with the remaining sugar. 8. Bake for about 30 minutes until the bananas are golden brown.
  8. Set aside.
  9. Then make the cookies.
  10. In a medium bowl, stir together the peanut butter and honey.
  11. Mix in the flour, then the caramelized bananas and lastly the chocolate.
    12 Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  12. Drop tablespoon-size clusters on the baking sheet.
    14 Then bake for 20 minutes, or until the cookies are golden brown.\
