This month I had the pleasure of receiving my first Loot Crate in the mail! Yes, really. My first Loot Crate. I had been curious about Loot Crates since they first became popular, but I had never been fully convinced to invest money in one. Until I saw that this one would contain exclusive Voltron merch. I was sold.

Because I had never gotten a Loot Crate of my own before, I was nervous that my money would be wasted and I would receive something cheap and useless. But I’m happy to report that I was not disappointed! As soon as I opened the box I was enthralled.

Naturally, the first thing that caught my eye was the Voltron shirt. But I made myself save that one for last just in case I didn’t like the other things. So, my eyes roamed over to the Loot Crate Exclusive POP! Figure. Now, I am one of those tragic human beings who absolutely cannot play video games. Not for lack of want, but of focus. That doesn’t mean I don’t have any knowledge about video games, though—I’ve scrolled through enough of your Tumblr blogs and found some vague understanding of games at least. At any rate, I’ll admit that I was a tad disappointed to see that the figure was Widowmaker. But I quickly got over that feeling because not only does she look absolutely badass but will also make a great gift for someone else who can truly appreciate her!

Next up was the Power Ranger figure. Power Rangers hold vague nostalgia for me. I remember loving Power Rangers as a kid. Especially when I finally got that Pink Ranger action figure out of the bar of glycerin soap my mom bought me (those were the days, man!). But I never got really into the series, so this was another ‘eh’ item for me. However, I couldn’t help but notice that the Yellow Ranger was chosen for this box because of its appearance— the saber tooth tiger looks reeeeeeal similar to the Yellow Lion of Voltron. Luckily, my boyfriend grew up watching both the Japanese and American Power Rangers series, so he got a fun new toy from the box!

The box also contained a Loot Crate enamel pin and a $10 gift card for VRV. I love pins! I have a drawer full of pins that I love so much I can’t stand the thought of putting them on something and possibly losing them! It’s a problem a plan to avoid confronting for the rest of my life, and this Loot Crate pin will make a great addition to my collection! (I may have gotten a little more excited than necessary about it, honestly.) And a $10 gift card for VRV Premium? Um, YES PLEASE. December binge-watching, here I come!

And now the part that made me audibly gasp. At the bottom of the box, nestled gently within those cardboard confines, was a reprint of “Justice League America: The Brave and the Bold.” I. Lost. My. Shit. It’s not quite the same as having an original, but I’ll be damned if reading the dialogue in this panel did not make my night.

Once I got myself all hyped about the comic, I was at the point of no return and I NEEDED to get my hands on that Voltron shirt. And I was thrilled!! I mean, look at this! The 8-bit design is adorable and gives it a nostalgic feel. It also gives the shirt the look of a faux-holiday sweater. Which I choose to believe was an intentional choice for the time of year! I was a little concerned about the fit of the shirt because it’s a women’s size, which I normally avoid because of my body type. But I was pleasantly surprised that the shirt fits perfectly! The only complaint I could muster up about it was that the Yellow Lion and yellow colors on the shirt looked more like a neon green. It’s odd, but it doesn’t ruin the product. And it certainly won’t make me any less excited to wear it!

Overall, I think my money was well spent. The great thing about being a nerd is that you make all sorts of nerd friends with different interests than your own. So, even if I can’t fully appreciate the value of some of the items in the box, I have others in my life who can! And let’s be real: the amount of money I spent on this box could have been put toward one t-shirt at Hot Topic. The amount of merch I received was definitely worth every penny.

Also, don’t be surprised if I never take that shirt off again. I’m just trying to bond with my lions. Don’t judge me.

Who else got their Loot Crate this month? Let me know how you liked the merch!
