We’re half way through the 43rd season of Saturday Night Live and on to a new year, so once again it’s time to anxiously await the announcement of the next set of hosts. This season SNL has done a better job of choosing more first timers as well as more diverse hosts. I’ve compiled a list of actors who based on upcoming projects and the fact they’ve never hosted would be perfect candidates.
Sterling K. Brown
Sterling has been been on my list a few times and I’m hoping SNL gets it right this year. The actor has received Golden Globe and SAG nominations for his performance as Randall Pearson in This Is Us. Although we are used to seeing him dramas I have no doubt that he would be a natural in sketches.
The funny lady recently wrapped her series The Mindy Project but has several projects coming out in 2018. Mindy will be producing, writing, and acting in the NBC comedy The Champions, co-staring in Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time in March, and co-starring in Ocean’s 8 in June. She recently announced the birth of her first child Katherine in December, but I’m hoping she can squeeze some time in for an SNL appearance in the spring.
I’m not sure why Donald Glover hasn’t already been on the show, especially after the success of his show Atlanta. Glover’s first writing credit was on 30 Rock when he was only 23 and he even auditioned for SNL in 2007 when they were looking for someone to play Barack Obama. Recently Chance the Rapper told Jimmy Fallon that Glover helped him write one of the sketches he performed on SNL.
The star of Star Wars: The Last Jedi could make a January appearance like Adam Driver did two years ago.
I will never stop hoping for this to happen. John Krasinski will be co-starring and directing in the film A Quiet Place out April 6, so it only make since for him to come on SNL to promote the film. Once again I’m getting my hopes up that SNL will get it’s stuff together and make my dream come true.
Black Panther will be released in February and as the titular star, Chadwick Boseman would be the perfect host.
Saturday Night Live will return January 13 with host Sam Rockwell.
