By now we’ve all seen the trailer for Infinity War. [But if not, stop what you’re doing and smash that link.] If you’re anything like me, you’ve watched it more times than you can count and dissected each moment. There’s a lot of awesome going on, but there’s one thing that stands out: Steve Rogers’s beard.

Chris Evans fans have long appreciated the bearded lumberjack look he rocks when he’s not filming as Captain America. There are blogs and Twitter accounts dedicated solely to Chris’s beard. On Tumblr especially, there’s quite a bit of thirst-posting about The Beard. It is as beloved in the Evans fandom as Chris’s singing dog, Dodger.

But with the release of the Infinity War trailer, the conversation has shifted. The current focus of the fandom is Bearded Steve Rogers. The combination long-hair-and-beard look has us all shook, and with good reason.

Since this is the Internet, there are loads of GIFs dedicated to The Beard, including the following set, appropriately and hilariously titled “Steve ‘Mr. Dramatic’ Rogers in Infinity War.”

In addition to GIFs displaying the glory of Bearded Steve, there are—of course—memes. The Internet can always be relied upon for A+ memes when literally anything happens, and The Beard is no different. There’s this gem:

And my personal favorite:

The Beard has even made it’s way to the top of MCU News:

But perhaps most importantly, at least to me, is the existence of some quality Beard Meta (with bonus Stucky feels):

We all have to wait until May 4, 2018 (or until Marvel drops a new trailer) to see more of The Beard in action, but I have faith that when more Beard Content is made available, the fandom will do what it does best and obsess over every available frame. I think we can all agree that 2017 was a dumpster fire, but The Beard has served as a shining light in these dark times. I’m looking forward to 2018, not just because it HAS to be better than this garbage year, but because it brings with it the promise of more Bearded Steve. Until then, I will soldier on and enjoy what Marvel has already given us.
