Superstore - Season 3

Greg Gayne / NBC

On last week’s Superstore, everyone had to deal with the very real repercussions of the tornado, including the mortality of their dear colleague, Brett.

The whole gang holds a funeral for Brett, who they’re assuming is dead because no one has seen him since the tornado and there was a random foot found in the parking lot. Everyone reacts to this death differently, taking us through the episode.

Mateo & Cheyenne use this opportunity to get some time off work to work through their grief. They tell Glenn that he was like a father and grandfather to them and that they needed to take many breaks to fully deal with the pain. Sweet innocent Glenn gives them the time off and even tries to help them through their grief.

Dina is the one who is most affected by this. We don’t really get to see Dina in a human and emotional light so it’s an absolute joy to see Lauren Ash finally get to show us everything she can do. Dina is weirdly troubled by the mortality of people and the unpredictability of life. She’s used to planning for every moment and thinking ahead and it has absolutely fucked with her that she couldn’t plan ahead for the tornado and that she couldn’t save everyone. She starts taking things from the store and stashing them all in a bunker, preparing for the next natural disaster.

Superstore - Season 3

Greg Gayne / NBC

Amy keeps trying to get through to her and to get her to open up but it doesn’t really work until they’re both in the bunker together – after having discovered that Brett is actually alive! – and Dina finally breaks down. She starts reliving every trauma she’s ever had and just feeling all the feelings she’s kept bottled up since her tenth birthday. The ladies bond for what we can assume is many many maaanyyy hours.

In other news, Jonah is trying to figure out how Garrett wound up in the wheelchair. He’s being hella nosy and inserting himself where he has no business, but Garrett lets him know that it’s none of his business, that the wheelchair doesn’t define him and so it doesn’t matter how it happened. He also lets him know that he’s an adult man who doesn’t need a best friend and if he did, it wouldn’t be Jonah.

All in all not a bad day of work, Brett’s alive, Amy & Dina bond, Mateo and Cheyenne get to procrastinate and Jonah learns to not be a nosy bitch.
