Ever since middle school, all my “what do you want to be when you grow up” essays all said the same thing: I’m dedicating my life to finding the Loch Ness Monster. So with that personal tidbit, you can understand why Guillermo Del Toro’s new movie “The Shape of Water” speaks to me on a personal level. The red band trailer released today showed a glimpse of the ethereal and surreal cinematic stories that Del Toro is famous for. The sea creature promises to be as memorable as the monsters in Del Toro’s “Pan’s Labyrinth” (Seriously, most sleepless nights my brain decides to wonder if the Pale Man AKA child-eating monster could hide in my closet). Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon and Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer star in this thrilling story, taking place in an Area 51 type facility, where a merman is captured and this dark fairytale begins.
“The Shape Of Water” hits theaters December 8, 2017.
