Matt Groening is heading back to Television via Netflix.

The streaming service has announced that it will be developing a medieval animated adult fantasy called Disenchantment.

The show centers around an alcoholic hard-living young princess named Bean, voiced by Abbi Jacobson (“Broad City”), her elf companion, Elfo (Nat Faxon), and personal demon Luci (Eric Andre) and their adventures in the crumbling kingdom of Dreamland.

According to Netflix, there will be “ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses and lots of human fools.” The voice-over cast also includes “The Simpsons” veterans Maurice LaMarche and Tress MacNeille.

About the series Groening said that “ultimately, Disenchantment will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you.”

“Matt Groening’s brilliant work has resonated with generations around the world and we couldn’t be happier to work with him on Disenchantment,” Cindy Holland, vice president of original content for Netflix, said in a statement. ” The series will bear his trademark animation style and biting wit, and we think it’s a perfect fit for our many Netflix animation fans.”

Matt Groening has had a brilliant career by mixing his love of humanity with his hatred for mankind. He’s helped to create some of the most legendary and well-rounded cartoon characters the world has ever seen. The show sounds slightly bleak but it’s a Matt Groening show, so it’s bound to have far more heart and humour than you could ever expect.

Disenchantment is expected to begin streaming in early 2018.
