One thing that you can count on every year is that Warner Bros. Pictures always makes their presence felt at San Diego Comic Con, as the past few years they’ve been responsible for some of the most exciting panels the Con has to offer. This year is no exception as they’ll be taking over Hall “H” like never before and bringing some of the biggest names in the business with them, including the one and only Steven Spielberg!
It all starts in Hall “H” on Saturday July 22nd at 11:30 am and the enviable task of hosting this amazing panel goes to everyone’s favorite nerd, Nerdist founder Chris Hardwick. Hardwick himself being no stranger to comic cons and all things fandom is the perfect host for this absolute nerd-gasmic event.
Here’s a rundown of what to expect that day!
Ready Player One
Director Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One, based on the popular Ernest Cline novel with the same name, will hold court at Hall “H” this year. Along with Mr. Spielberg himself, he’ll be joined by cast members Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke and T.J. Miller, and joining them with be author/co-screenwriter Cline and co-screenwriter Zak Penn. This will be Spielberg’s second only visit to SDCC ever, 2011 being his first, and since there has been no footage released yet anywhere for RPO and details have been scarce, expect this to be something special.
Blade Runner 2049
The long-awaited Blade Runner 2049, Alcon Entertainment’s sequel to the cult classic takes us 30 more years into the future, will be featured at Hall “H” with stars Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, as well as Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Lennie James and Mackenzie Davis, writers Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. They will all be joined on stage by director Denis Villeneuve who most assuredly will bring footage along with him. No word on whether Jared Leto will make an appearance or not but fans will be clambering enough with Ford already being there. With Disney/Lucas Films saving all their juicy stuff for the D23 Expo, Ford will be a welcome site at San Diego for Star Wars fans.
Not to be outdone of course, the DC universe is giving everyone a day to remember in Hall “H” as fans will almost certainly get to see Justice League footage with the panel featuring stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher. Henry Cavill will not be in attendance as he is currently shooting MI6 with Tom Cruise but if the footage gives us our first look at Superman, then I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a secret guest in the works either via satellite or in person. One mainstay normally at San Diego has been Zack Snyder but there’s been no word on if he or Joss Whedon will show up. I can imagine Snyder would get quite the welcome in Hall “H” after what transpired in his personal life which of course forced him to step away from JL, to be replaced by Whedon.
Then, if that won’t be enough, director James Wan will be making a separate Aquaman presentation in the hall, joined by Mamoa of course, giving everyone what should be our very first look at their 2018 release Aquaman. There’s been no word if any other cast members from Aquaman such as Amber Heard or Nicole Kidman will be in attendance but it wouldn’t shock me if Wan and Mamoa were joined on stage by others. Fans have been waiting patiently for a look at this one and it’s sure to cause a fever pitch inside the hall and out.
Other Exciting Stuff Happening…
