The first season of My Hero Academia was astounding. It left its mark and made its presence known. Though the season was only 13 episodes, they really packed as much as they could into such few episodes. Every episode, they had the audience at the edge of their seat, desperately yearning for the next episode. And so far, I think season 2 has delivered.

Season 1 did a great job of introducing a bunch of characters that are also very distinct and you can remember which one is which easily. And for season 2, they try to start right where they left off and develop those awesome characters. We start off the season with the introduction to the UA sport festival. The sports festival is a school wide event that lets students show the nation what they are made of. It also shows already established heroes what prospects attend UA and who they could potentially draft and have part of their team. It kind of reminds me of the Chūnin exams arc from Naruto. Naruto also did a great job of throwing a wide range of characters your way and eventually adding more detail as they go.

So the sports festival have contenders from all around UA. Not only is Midoriya’s class (class 1A) competing in the festival. But classes 1-B to 1-K are also trying to advertise themselves to the nation. Classes 1-A and 1-B are the hero courses. 1-C through 1-E are the General Education classes. 1-F through 1-H are the Support classes. And finally classes 1-I through 1-K are the management students. The lower you go in class lettering the less impressive the students become, but some students may have been hiding what true potential they may have.

The first trial all the students must endure is an obstacle course that includes giant robots, tight rope walk, and a mine field. Izuku was able to outsmart his opponents by using the explosions from the mine field to feed him momentum all the way into first place. The top 42 from the race go on to the second trial: the Calvary battle. The participants get in groups of 2-4 with each other. Each contestant has points assigned to him or her based on their performance in the obstacle course. Teams must steal these points from other players. The points will be labeled on headbands corresponding to its participant.

Midoriya’s team consisting of Hatsume, Tokoyami, and Ochako barely made the top five of the Calvary battle at 4th place. Which leads to the Final; A tournament style fighting competition. The top 16 students are put into a bracket and duke it out 1v1. Izuku ends up losing to Todaroki in the semifinals but Bakugo wins his fight in the final four. So the finals are set: Todaroki vs Bakugo. Ever since the start of the school year, those two were the clear-cut, true talent all-stars of class 1-A. The sports festival comes to an end with Bakugo winning the finals.

So after the students have showed off their talents to the nation, offers for internships from hero agencies have come in. Todoroki and Bakugo gained a ton of interest while other students didn’t get near as much. But Midoriya got one offer from the hero, Gran Torino. Gran Torino was All Might’s home room teacher back when he attended UA. Gran Torino also knows about All Mights quirk and how he is passing it down to Midoriya. But All Might seems disturbed by this. Who knows what reason that might be.
