In case you’ve missed it, 2014’s major movie hit, Guardians of the Galaxy is getting a sequel. And in just a month you can already watch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 in cinemas!

Now you might be wondering whether or not you should run to the cinema on the 5th of may 2017, but look no further because I’m about to tell you why you can’t miss this movie.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2′, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures two-to-three months after the first film, as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. We learn that his dad is none other than Ego The Living Planet. And we will certainly see Peter Quill not only dealing with the fact that he’s not entirely human but also question whether or not he can actually trust his newly-discovered father.

Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

“Part of the meta-arc of the movie is what’s going to happen to the Guardians family. Are they going to stay together? So there is a big split that happens relatively early in the movie. Actually, whether they’re going to get back together or remain as a family is, very much, one of the big plots, or themes.” Jason Gunn, the director, said.

Compared to the first movie, there will be some additions to the Guardians family. The various movie posters already show us that both Nebula and Yondu will become members of the crew at some point in the movie. So it’s worth noting that Nebula might be having a change of heart evil/good-wise, which is an interesting development given what we know about her. Yondu most definitely will be joining the ranks of the Guardians team as a full-fledged member, but how and why he will be joining the team is still a mystery.

A completely new character that will be joining the cast of GotG2 is Mantis. A psychic woman born the prophesied saviour of a race of alien trees. She is one of the most gifted fighters in the Marvel Universe, as she is not only strong and athletic but has a knack for sensing weak points and exploiting them. Besides that, she also has a special kind of emotional telepathy that lets her connect with the feelings of others.

“She [Mantis] has never really encountered other people and other humans/ humanoids before and makes Drax look like the most world-savvy person there is” Jason Gunn

A good movie needs a villain and GotG 2 has found one in Ayesha. In the comics, she is also known as Kismit, Her or Paragon, but whatever name she has, she is super powerful. She is the second attempt (after Adam Warlock) of a group known as the Enclave to create a super-powered lifeform. This is proved successful and her powers include the manipulation of cosmic energy, flight, and regeneration abilities so incredible that she’s basically an immortal being.

“Ayesha is the golden High Priestess of a genetically-perfect people called the Sovereign. She’s not a woman to be screwed with – she, and her entire world are extraordinarily deadly.” Jason Gunn

As I mentioned before, Quill’s father is no other than Ego The Living Planet. In Marvel Comics, Ego is literally a planet with a face on it, but the character will be changed for GotG2 and will be played by Kurt Russell. Portrayed more as an ancient cosmic being, Ego has been alone for millions of years and he’s learned how to control the molecules around him in such a way as to create avatars of himself to be with Peter’s mum, which is how she wound up giving birth to little Star-Lord.

“I think Ego was a very lonely character out there by himself and went off in search of love, and perhaps found it in Quill’s mother.” Jason Gunn

I hope that I gave you enough reasons to go and see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 because it will be worth it. GotG Vol. 2 is scheduled to be released on May 5, 2017,
