I know that this is all of us right now:
BUT we’re almost there, y’all! Just over one month to go before the April 10th premiere of Better Call Saul Season 3 hits AMC. As usual, the Gilligang has kept things mostly under wraps but we do know that FRING’S BACK. In honor of everyone’s favorite chicken-slinging meth king, let’s take a look back at some of Gus Fring’s most memorable scenes.
GUSTAVO FRING’S TOP FIVE MOMENTS OF SHEER BADASSERY;
5. Gus threatens to kill Walt’s entire family.
Ah, a classic. In “Crawl Space” (4×11), Gus lays it out there for Walt. Even though Gus had said in the past that he doesn’t find fear to be an effective motivator, dealing with all of Walt’s bullshit has clearly changed his mind. He tells him that if he doesn’t get with the program, “I will kill your wife. I will kill your son. I will kill your infant daughter.” And you know what? I believe him.
4. Gus takes out Juárez cartel liaison Juan Bolsa.
In “I See You” (3×8) we get one of our first glimpses into how absolutely ruthless Gus is. I just love that Gus Fring smile as he listens to the gunfire that kills Juan Bolsa in his own home. While he doesn’t do the dirty work himself, he arranges the whole thing. Adios, Juan. You messed with the wrong dude.
3. Gus literally walks through a hail of cartel bullets like COME AT ME BRO.
In “Bug” (4×9), the cartel sends some snipers to take care of some of Gus’s men. They aren’t trying to kill Gus because the cartel needs him, but they have zero problem killing his guys and this makes Gus angry. Don’t make Gus angry.
2. Gus murders Don Eladio and the entire cartel with poison tequila.
Remember when I said don’t make Gus angry? This is why. In “Salud” (4×10) Gus takes his revenge on arch enemy Don Eladio and the rest of the cartel. This almost made my number one spot because Gus literally drinks poison himself in order to obliterate the entire cartel in one shot (including the remaining members of the Salamanca family). It also leads to this great moment in “Crawl Space” when Gus goes to Hector Salamanca to gloat that he’s the only remaining member of the Salamanca family and the name dies with him.
1. Gus slits Victor’s throat in the lab.
In the appropriately named “Box Cutter” (4×1) Gus uses—you guessed it—a box cutter to slit Victor’s throat. He’s cold as ice as he kills HIS OWN GUY in the lab, in front of Mike, Jesse, and Walt. Sure, Victor had a few minor screw ups (cooking a batch without permission, being seen at Gale’s crime scene) but I feel like this punishment is a little extra. Gus is doing it to prove a point—that point being that he will kill literally anyone who in any way threatens him or his business, and he will not give a single fuck about doing it.
I know y’all are with me when I say I cannot wait for Gus Fring’s entry into the BCS universe. He’s probably not going to be this kind of next-level badass yet, but he’s still one of the greatest villains of all time and I miss having him on my TV screen. I’m very much looking forward to Gus Fring: The Early Years, especially his developing relationship with Mike.
One month to go kids. We can do it!
