In ‘Hamilton: An American Musical,’ Aaron Burr sings out in ‘The Ten Duel Commandments’ “Can we agree that duels are dumb and immature?” and A. Ham quips back “Sure…but your man has to answer for his words Burr.” Nothing could be more fitting to this episode of “Taboo.” When Zilpha’s filthy husband challenges Delaney in a matter of honor, we have the sense that SOMETHING has to give; it turns out to be racist husband’s second for the duel. After the second deliberately doesn’t load his pistol, disgusting husband shoots and of course nothing happens to Delaney. The latter throws away his shot at retribution and shoots the second in the back of the head. Giving up the plot, acerbic husband isn’t grateful to Delaney-he’s as awful as ever.

As for Delaney’s plans for Nootka Sound and outsmarting the Crown and EIC, he finally gets his father’s papers from Lorna Bow. Rifling through, he finds the treaty that granted his father (stolen) Nootka Sound. The treaty isn’t enough: Delaney understands that part of this fight will be physical and he continues to work with shady chemist Cholmondeley. Mixing vats and vats of properties for gunpowder, Delaney even apprentices his biological son to Cholmondeley. It is not a touching scene when his kid stares at him in fear-and Delaney doesn’t get it. At all.

With the Crown and EIC still duking it out, the Americans step up their approach to James. He continually presses his claim to the sea pelt monopoly to the Countess Musgrove (Thomas Jefferson’s emissary in England) and may be in a solid position due to the Crown being tired of the EIC’s bullshart. The Prince Regent finds a way to get to EIC’s resources: a royal commission investigation. Finding out the EIC committed fraud by jettisoning “cargo” (PEOPLE) on a slave ship, the Crown enlists the aid of Mr. Chestershire, Esq.-a Black barrister with a human interest in the case. This will keep the EIC busy and allow Delaney to move full speed ahead with his plans.
