With both Karev and DeLuca back, Bailey worries about her hospital staff and asks her husband, Ben, to be her eyes and ears to help her keep the hospital safe. Ben replies, “You can have my whole body but not my eyes and ears.” After Ben walks away, Webber offers to be Bailey’s mole, like Hercules Mulligan.

Maggie confides in Meredith about all of the sex dreams she has been having about Riggs, and tells Mer that she is going to ask him out, making Meredith uncomfortable since she has secretly hooked up with Riggs.

Amelia decides to throw a housewarming party, now that she and Owen are married. Owen asks Meredith (in the middle of surgery, because clearly it’s urgent) to come to their housewarming party as a buffer with Riggs. Meredith declines. Maggie says she’ll go, stating that she makes a great buffer. Meredith decides that if Maggie is going, she’s going.

Harriet is cleared to go home, but April isn’t. Her incisions came back open and the doctors want to do another round of therapy before she can join her baby at home. Jackson doesn’t want to leave April in this state, but she tells him that he has to go and that she’ll just stay here and die of dehydration. He offers to pay to get a baby nurse to live with April and help her with Harriet. April reminds him that they’re not married and says she’ll figure it out as a single mom and that he doesn’t need to check in on her and to just let her cry.

Stephanie asks Amelia if Jo can be on her service, so that Jo can avoid Alex. Amelia agrees. Their case is a woman, Patricia, with a tumor, which she calls Wilma, after her ex-husband’s mistress. Jo isn’t comfortable with Amelia and Patricia saying, “we’re going to kick Wilma’s ass” after everything that happened with Karev and DeLuca

Meredith runs into DeLuca on the elevator. She reminds him that she was brutally assaulted and advises him to not waste his time in court when, as an intern, he should be spending logging hours in the O.R. This comes off as a threat to DeLuca.

At Owen’s housewarming party, Meredith suggests that Owen give Maggie a tour of the house so that Mer can talk to Riggs alone. She tells him that Maggie is going to ask him out, and asks him to be nice but to tell her no.

While leaving the party, Jo sees Karev, and they have a brief, painful conversation.

“Sorry doesn’t fix anything. You lash out and you hurt people and you think you can just walk it back with I’m sorry.”

Karev gets his page that Zach is in surgery. His appendix ruptured and he’s septic. Karev tries to scrub in, but Bailey won’t let him. Instead, Karev tells Zach’s mom that this surgery is his fault and that he’s off the case because of it. He missed a sign of infection. If the infection spreads, it could cause Zach to lose his kidney transplant.

While getting prepped for surgery, Patricia tells Jo about being married to the same man for 30 years. He was a preacher and had been cheating on her. When she found out she had a brain tumor, she was so pissed that she found the strength to leave him.

There is no blood flow into Zach’s kidney. Being the general surgery attending, Meredith scrubs in. She asks DeLuca if he has ever scrubbed in on a kidney transplant removal. Before surgery, Karev asks Zach if he’s scared. “Nothing’s as bad as broccoli.”

When Maggie comes up to Riggs after work and asks him if he’d like to get dinner, Riggs says, “You’re an amazing woman.” After a long pause, he continues by saying, “I’m not ready to date… anyone,” which gives Maggie false hope about the future.

After Zach’s successful surgery, Bailey tells Karev how disappointed she is in his felony charge. He had been the most improved and biggest surprise. He is a good, compassionate doctor and he is good with people. The Denny Duquette Clinic (Remember when Izzie took all of the money that Denny had left her and opened a clinic in his honor?) is short staffed. Uncomfortable with one of her surgeons walking around the hospital with these charges, Bailey tells Karev that he’ll start spending his hours over there.

After work, Meredith tells Karev about how she has slept with Riggs. Maggie bursts into the room and starts drinking and angsting over Riggs, but recalls how he said he’s not ready to date anyone yet, and decides she just needs to wait it out and not give up on him.
