We’re only four months into 2024, but it’s already been a great year for books! Here are five of the most popular releases so far.

The Women by Kristin Hannah — The latest from bestselling author Hannah is an epic historical fiction set during the Vietnam War. It follows a twenty-year-old nursing student, Frances “Frankie” McGrath, who enlists with the Army Nurse Corps after her older brother is sent to Vietnam. This much-anticipated novel explores friendship, patriotism, and courage, and has been a #1 bestseller on The New York Times, USA Today, The Washington Post, and Los Angeles Times lists since its release in February.

The Teacher by Freida McFadden — McFadden burst onto the Booktok literary scene with her novel The Housemaid. In her most recent thriller, McFadden tells the story of a high school math teacher, Eve, who suspects there is more than meets the eye to last year’s school scandal: a student-teacher affair involving a potentially dangerous student, Addie. Of course, this is a Freida McFadden novel, so there are bound to be more dangerous people lurking in the shadows than just one girl. It’s no surprise that The Teacher is being labelled as a “psychological thriller” by many critics.

House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah J. Maas — If you are a fantasy lover, I think it’s safe to bet that you have read at least one Sarah J. Maas book in your time. Maas is best known for her wildly popular series A Court of Thorns and Roses, as well as her debut fantasy Throne of Glass—a Cinderella story with a twist, which she began writing and posting to FictionPress at age 16! House of Flame and Shadow is Maas’s latest foray into her Crescent City series, which began with 2020’s House of Earth and Blood. In this installment, protagonists Bryce and Hunt are separated, quite literally worlds apart after the events of the previous book.

Snowglobe by Soyoung Park, translated by Joungmin Lee Comfort — Originally published in South Korea in 2020, this dystopian young adult debut arrived on U.S. shelves back in February. It was already an award-winning novel in its native language, and now it’s an American bestseller—and, it is being optioned for a screen adaptation by CJ Entertainment! Snowglobe tells the story of an Earth that has become a frozen wasteland, except for Snowglobe, a domed city full of warmth. The lucky citizens of Snowglobe only have that warmth, of course, because of the overworked power plant employees who live outside of the dome. One such employee, Chobahm, loves watching the twenty-four-hour broadcasts of the lives of those fortunate enough to live under the dome. But when she becomes the next celebrity to live in Snowglobe, she finds out just how far the reality in “reality television” has been skewed. Book two’s translation is already in the works!

Dog Man: The Scarlet Shedder by Dav Pilkey — If you have a young reader in the house, you’re probably familiar with this one! Dav Pilkey is a cartoonist, author, and illustrator best known for his Captain Underpants series. Now, he is becoming popular with young fans once again with his latest graphic novels. The Scarlet Shedder is already the twelfth entry in Pilkey’s Dog Man series, and it is being hailed as both hilarious and suspenseful. After being sprayed by a skunk and bathed in tomato juice, Dog Man himself is stained red! Even though his city has exiled him because of his scarlet fur, he continues to defend its citizens from all manner of villains, including an army of A.I. robots.
