Right now it is only a week until everyone who isn’t able to see the musical is able to experience the eighth Harry Potter story trough the book. Are you getting excited yet? At least I am! And I’m celebrating it with a closer look at our last main family of the story; The Malfoys.

Draco Malfoy is played by Alex Price, while the role of Scorpius is fulfilled by Anthony Boyle. What I love about this casting (something JK also mentioned) is that they really look related, unlike other castings I’ve seen.

The first thing  I notice when I see the pictures is that it just the two of them, Draco and his son Scorpios. So where is his wife Astoria, whom we saw in the epilogue when they dropped Scorpios off on platform 9 ¾? Because the events in the epilogue will likely be addressed in some way or another in the play,  it would be odd to say they are divorced or something else along that line.  Not that I see Draco not going 100% for his family. This means that she’d likely be a minor character in the play, or doesn’t show at all. But then why not include her in the family picture if she’s present in the play? They are a family after all. But this is something I mentioned before with the missing of James Potter II and Hugo Weasley (And Lily Luna Potter) in their family portraits.

If we take a closer look at Draco in the picture, the one thing that really strikes out is his long hair. With this, the resemblance with this father Lucius cannot be missed. But there lays the  point that bothers me. In his younger years, all Draco tried to do was please his father, until he realized that he does not always need his father’s blessing and he might even come do dislike him. So why did Draco grow his hair out to look like the man that he loathes? Every time he will look in the mirror he’ll see something from his father in his reflection. Now I’m not him, but that’s something I wouldn’t be pleased about.  Not only his hair reminds me of Lucius, the way he dresses resembles Lucius. The only thing he’s missing is Lucius’s cane/wand combination.

The last thing I’d like to mention is Scorpius his facial expression. He looks utterly terrified of his dad, what surprises me. After all, Draco has been put trough a lot by his own dad, you’d at least think that he tries to be a much better father to Scorpius that Lucius ever was to him. That does not include making him terrified of you.

J.K. Rowling also teased that Scorpius might be a hit with the ladies. She said: ‘I’ve got a feeling Scorpius is going to do nothing to turn girls off the Malfoy men.’

What do you think about the casting? Or maybe you’ve already seen the actors in their roles, we’d love to hear what you think!
