In the first episode of the season, the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt writers spent their time resolving those pesky cliff-hangers that we were left with at the end of Season 1. But if the first episode of the season wrapped up the loose ends from last season, then the second episode, Kimmy Goes On A Playdate, sets the course for season 2, setting up arcs for Kimmy, Titus and Jacqueline.

The episode centers on Jacqueline’s return to New York City after spending time with her family in North Dakota. Jacqueline’s divorce left her “poor” by New York standards, but her goal is to get herself back into the upper echelons of New York society so that she can use her power and wealth to assist Native-Americans. The only problem with her plan? Deidre! A new character played by the always-amazing Anna Camp. (Is that you Gwen from The Mindy Project???) Deidre is the mean-girl leader of the Park Avenue mom clique that Jacqueline must get past to get herself back on top, and she is successful! After recruiting Kimmy to help impress Deidre with a very elaborate Ninja-Turtle themed play date, Jacqueline then crashes an art auction where she proves her status by blowing most of her divorce settlement on a fancy painting. If episode 1 is any indication, the fancy painting will be making more appearances this season, but am I the only one hoping that we get to see more of Deidre too?

Elsewhere, Titus is busy making a love connection with the very adorable construction worker who outed himself to Titus in season 1. They meet after Titus spots Mikey (the construction worker) snapping up clothes discarded by Titus in an effort to de-clutter, and spend the rest of the episode getting to know each other. I’m thrilled to see Titus in a relationship with a cute boy!

Finally, Kimmy’s role in this episode was small, as she played more of a supporting character. She was, however, able to secure a part-time job at a year-round Christmas shop, which she seems particularly well suited for, and she popped up in time to help Xanthippe get over her grief at the loss of her New York apartment. We’re hoping for more Kimmy time in episode 3!
