This season certainly started off with a bang. Okay first things first; so Dean is cured now – that’s awesome. I can honestly say I didn’t expect that to happen so early into the season as I was so sure this was going to be the main story arc of S10. I was legitimately expecting the 200th musical episode to feature demo Dean singing which, let’s be honest, would have been pretty epic. On the other hand I’m glad that Dean is now back to normal because it means that after having watched this show religiously for the past ten years, it can still surprise me. This episode had some classic SPN moments which I’ve really missed this past season. Seeing Sam and Dean attempting to have a holiday and failing miserably at it was brilliant. On a much deeper level it really showed how extremely hard it must be for the boys to just pretend like bad things don’t happen and to try and move on. You can take the hunting out of the boy but not the boy out of the hunting right? Or something like that at least.

Now Dean being cured leaves us with a few problems. The Mark of Cain is still there and sooner or later this is going to start effecting Dean, just like Cas told Sam and the answer that remains is undoubtedly ‘What will happen when that occurs and how much of a problem will it be? I suppose we’ll have to wait and see but I have a feeling things aren’t going to be as easy as they seem now.
What I really liked about this episode was how they went back to classic season 1 hunting like way back in the early days. Werewolves have been some of my favourite Supernatural villains and it’s nice to see that they brought back Kate. I’ve always like SPN for the way its now afraid to bring back old characters so we can see what they’ve been up to since the last time they appeared. Sam and Dean’s approach towards monsters have also notably changed over the years. They’ve gone from killing everything that goes bump in the night to viewing monsters as beings that once upon a time used to be human and that they are not all of them inherently bad. Kate is a perfect example of such a monster and I have a feeling it isn’t the last we’ve see of her.

Another thing that surprised me about this episode was how Crowley helped Castiel and more than anything how Cas didn’t seem to mind. We all know Crowley has hidden agendas for everything and this feels like one of them. It makes me wonder if Castiel is now somehow indebted to Crowley and that can never be a good thing. I am however glad to see our favourite angel back up on his feet. Few things in this show so far leaves me as heartbroken as seeing Cas suffering and in pain. I’m also hoping there might even be a bit of romance between Cas and Hannah. I’m not entirely sure how likely that is to happened but it would be a new experience for Cas as well as an interesting character development to say the least. For now he seems adamant to remain professional but he’s been on Earth for such a long time now that I’m wondering if it’s at all possible for him to not let humanity affect him in the slightest. Surely even angels feel love too?
So with Dean cured, who will this season’s bad guy be and who was the redheaded woman we saw in the very last seconds of the episode? Another demon or perhaps something darker still? I guess we’ll have to tune in on next week’s ‘Adventures of Moose and Squirrel’ to find out.
