Last month I was lucky enough to attend a summer tradition of going to Wizard World right by my home town of Des Plaines. I been going to Wiz World Chicago for the last six years and Wizard World has always been alright. It never really felt up there with C2E2. It always seemed more of a “B show” compared to C2E2. However this year was such a large improvement over recent years.

This year there was great deal of expectations from the con goers due to a lackluster C2E2 we had earlier this year and many attendees wanted to end the summer on a high note, Wizard World gave us just that. As soon I arrive I couldn’t help to notice such a positive and universal feel of love for comics in the air. I couldn’t help to over hear so many conversations of everything from Strangers Things to Rick and Morty season among such a diverse group of people. Then as I waited for the show floor to open I checked out the merch and was surprised how well design the t shits were. Over all I bought two of the “ straight outta comic con” shirts and a handful of Flash theme funkopops.

This year I was only able to attend a few panels but my two favorites were the iZombie panel and the Ash Vs The Evil Dead. Im a pretty big fan of iZombie and the whole zombie culture. The panel was not only informative of the show but the many behind of the scenes of the production. Rose  McIver  was very funny and gave great feedback on all the questions that made us feel that she’s just a fan of zombies rather than a actress just playing one.

However the best panel of mt Saturday trip and what may be my favorite panel of all year was the Ash Vs The Evil Dead Panel.

Bruce Campbell is a true class act. His witty and charismatic persona stole the night in my opinion. Bruce Campbell had this whole room laughing and engaged on his every word. The panel also had a wedding proposal which was sweet till Bruce made a witty one liner to give it that “Ash William’ feel to it. I also loved how he almost took anyone who asked a dumb question down a peg. It was almost an honer to be insulted by Bruce. The only problem I think the panel had was that Bruce Campbell was so good he unintentionally stole the spotlight from his co stars and the show it self. But at the end Bruce gave a small child who was dressed as Ash Williams the spotlight to close the panel which proved that Bruce is a class act and a true entertainer.

Wizard World Chicago was a large improvement of the past years with it being much more organized and the large improvement of all the vendors and guests. Wizard World was a great way to end the summer and remind us why we love cons so much. Its a refreshing con filled with such great cosplayers who all share a universal love for all things nerdy.
